Harlem-Roscoe Fire Chief Don Shoevlin says, "Harlem Roscoe firefighters received a 911 call at 6:04am on March 5, for a report of smoke coming from the roof of a restaurant on West Lane in Machesney Park. Upon arrival of first units there was smoke coming from the north wall and roof. An interior attack was initiated to locate the fire. Additional assistance was requested from MABAS to the second alarm. Second unit was sent to the roof for ventilation and check the roof top units. They encountered that the fire was beginning to compromise the roof structure. All interior teams were instructed to evacuate the building and a defensive strategy was taken. There was no one in the building at the time of the incident and no injuries to the firefighters. The structure and the business are a complete loss. The cause of the fire is accidental and appears to have involved cooking oil and cleaning cloths. The IL State Fire Marshal was requested to investigate the fire with assistance from Harlem Roscoe Fire Investigators and Northwest Fire investigator."
