Celebrations were cut short Easter Sunday night as Harlem-Roscoe Firefighters responded from all three stations to a house fire on Banyan Drive in Machesney Park. A passing motorist saw flames coming from the roof of a house and called 9-1-1 as she banged on the front door to see if anyone was home. Three teens and four dogs were in the home, and they were totally unaware their roof was on fire. Gusting winds hampered firefighters, but the fire was extinguished and overhaul went into the early morning hours. No one was injured and the residents and pets are staying with family and friends. Fire investigators say the fire was accidental from improper use of smoking material.
