House Fire Extinguishes Itself
December 31, 2005, Harlem-Roscoe Firefighters arrived at a home on Prairienook to find heavy smoke damage in the first floor and heavy fire and smoke damage as well as 2 feet of water in the basement, but no fire. It is believed a fire at the hot water heater got hot enough to loosen a coupling on a copper water pipe. Fire investigators figure that about 30,000 gallons of water poured into the basement. The water extinguished the fire and filled the basement with a couple feet of water.
