Firefighters were called from their Thanksgiving meals for a possible structure fire. Upon arrival on Gladys Dr. in Machesney Park, firefighters found the rear exterior of a single family home involved in fire. Firefighters made an aggressive attack and had the fire under control in about 20 minutes. The homeowners were home at the time of the fire and everyone was able to get out of the house; no injuries were sustained to the occupants or firefighters. Firefighters were able to locate a family dog and Paramedics used the Pet mask and gave it some oxygen. The fire appeared to start on the rear exterior deck. The home sustained moderate fire and smoke damage. Chief Don Shoevlin said, "The firefighters did an outstanding job of bringing this fire under control. It could have been a lot worst then it was if it was not for their quick actions and hard work."
