1886 - General John A. Logan's Memorial Day Order, " . . .Let us, then, at the time appointed, gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with choicest flowers of springtime; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from dishonor; let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us as sacred charges upon the Nation's gratitude,--the soldier's and sailor's widow and orphan. . . "

May 30, Harlem-Roscoe Firefighters honored all soldiers that gave their lives for our country by marching in full uniform in the Roscoe Memorial Day Parade and attending the Memorial Service at the Roscoe Cemetary. A firefighter asked the Chief if maybe they could not wear their dress blues coats since the temperature was reaching 90 degrees. Chief Shoevlin responded, "They fought in worse conditions than this, it's the least we can do!
