Loves Park VFW Awards Firefighters

Harlem-Roscoe Fire's recipient of this years Loves Park VFW Post 9759 Firefighter of the Year Award is Firefighter Nate Sarver. Chief Don Shoevlin says, "Nate is an individual with a desire to be the best at what he involves himself with. A task or assignment that is given to him is one that will receive his undivided attention with successful completion. Mr. & Mrs. Sarver you have a son to be very proud of."

Nate joined the department in April of 2012.  In the short 2 years that Nate has been with Harlem-Roscoe Fire, his accomplishments are huge. When he started his recruit class and since then, his enthusiasm and desire have never lessened.  He has successfully completed his NIMS requirements; HAZMAT Awareness FF II practical’s and just recently passed the national EMT test. He has logged a total of 195 hours of training.  In 2013 Nate attended 98% of the department training sessions, and responded to a total of 437 calls both as a volunteer and while working shift. Nate is also an active firefighter in volunteering for shifts at the firehouse and representing the department at many community events. Then there is the maintenance division he actively works with. He does all of this while working a job outside the fire house. This past year Nate was the also the recipient of our HRFD Good Service Award which was voted on by his peers. They all see the tremendous effort and commitment he gives to helping others.

Chief Shoevlin added, "As a Fire Chief, I know if I could clone an individual to be a firefighter with a caring heart, a commitment to success, a dedication to the brotherhood, a desire for achievement, a person who takes ownership and responsibility, Nate is definitely that individual. Nate you deserve to hold your head up high for what you have achieved in a short amount of time. Nate it truly is an honor to have you as a member of the Harlem Roscoe Fire Department!"
